The mechanical techniques we practise as kihon, become organic and fluid in combat.
Training at our dojo focuses on the fundamentals (kihon): stances, kicks, and blocks. When sparring (kumite) or fighting outside the dojo, every attack, counter, evasion, or throw, is kihon in motion.
Kihon represents the fundamental building blocks of karate-do: stances, strikes, kicks, and blocks.
Kumite by comparison, is the application of those fundamentals in response to an opponent, adding timing, distancing, and evasion.
Proper training and understanding kihon, is crucial to improving as a fighter and succeeding through the ranks of kyu-grades (colour belts), and beyond.
